Bio-Based Composites
The early use of bio-derived materials to make plastic was limited to egg and blood protein, but this scenario quickly changed in the 1800's with the use of natural rubber through the vulcanization process. Various experiments around the use of natural plastic materials later gave way to materials with enhanced characteristics. This was possible because natural materials such as collagen and galalite were modified to meet certain parameters that guaranteed enhanced performance. Finally man-made products that are known today as synthetic forms for plastics have also had their share in history.
