Bristol University | Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science | 2016: ACCIS Seminar
With the recent trend toward large slender wind turbine blades, questions are being raised regarding their reliability in fatigue. To evaluate the reliability, international standards require fatigue tests of full-scale prototype blades as a mandatory procedure for certification. The presentation will introduce the fatigue tests of two different blades 48.3m and 55.6m in length and what challenges exist. In addition, the failure analyses for the design improvement will be discussed.
